COTABATO CITY – Three government troopers were wounded when an anti-personnel mine exploded in Ampatuan, Maguindanao on Thursday morning.

Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy, the Army’s 6th Infantry Division commander, was unable to identify the injured soldiers pending notices to their respective families.

Uy said troopers of the 57th Infantry Battalion were conducting combat clearing operation at the time of the explosion that occurred around 7:15 a.m. in Barangay Salman of the municipality.

The wounded personnel were immediately evacuated to the Camp Siongco Hospital in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao, he said.

“We deployed additional troops to cordon the area and establish the circumstances,” Uy, concurrent head of Joint Task Force Central, added.

Initial reports from the military said the roadside bomb bore the signature style of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) operating in the area.

Additional troops were sent to the area to pursue the bombers who fled to the interiors of the village, Uy said.

On Sept. 18, a Marine soldier was killed while four of his colleagues were wounded when a roadside bomb also went off in adjacent Datu Hoffer town in the province. Noel Punzalan
