CEBU CITY – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on Friday cited 30 business establishments in Cebu with its Bagwis Awards in recognition of their efforts to uphold the rights and welfare of consumers and the practice of responsible business.

DTI-Cebu provincial director Rose Mae Quin?anola said these establishments were able to practice good business ethics, adhere to suggested retail process and promote the welfare of their employees.

“The award shall be valid for three years from date of conferment. DTI will automatically revalidate this by reassessing that the establishment has consistently complied with the Bagwis parameters within three consecutive years,” Quin?anola added.

The recipients of the Gold Seal Award were Emcor Inc. (Lapu-Lapu), Isuzu Inc. Cebu and Mandaue, Seven Eleven (7/11) Pinamungajan and Buanoy, Balamban, Super Metro Lapu-lapu (Supermarket and Department Store), and Metro Mandaue (Supermarket and Department Store).

It also conferred the same award to Super Metro Bogo (Supermarket and Department Store), Super Metro Carcar (Supermarket and Department Store), Metro Supermarket Banilad, Carmen and Shang Island Tower, Toyota Mabolo, Gaisano Grand Minglanilla (Supermarket and Department Store), Iconic Dealership (Volkswagen), Prince Hypermarket Tuburan (Supermarket, Department Store and Appliance Center), Prince Town Danao (Supermarket, Department Store and Appliance Center) and Prince Hypermarket Argao (Supermarket, Department Store and Appliance Center).

The DTI Bagwis Awards has three levels namely the Bronze Seal, Silver Seal, and Gold Seal.

The Bronze Seal Award is given to businesses that complied with fair trade laws and established a consumer welfare desk or an equivalent consumer relations office inside their store.

The Silver Seal Award is given to businesses who achieved the requirements of the Bronze Seal Award and exhibited outstanding qualities in social responsibility.

On the other hand, the Gold Seal Award is handed over to stores that achieved the requirements of the Silver Seal Award plus adhering to some elements aligned with ISO 9001.

Customer relations officer Nin?a Gei Ben Ghazi of Isuzu Cebu and Mandaue said this award is both a prestige and responsibility.

“This is a prestige because it’s an honor for us to be awarded as we uphold our vision for our Filipino consumers, and also a responsibility to uphold the current practices that we have and to strive to become even more better,” she shared.

Retail establishments such as supermarkets, department stores, specialty stores, hardware stores, appliance centers and DTI-accredited service and repair shops may vie for Bagwis Awards.

These establishments are encouraged to apply for this annual awarding to safeguard interests of consumers and to foster fair business practices. Carlo Lorenciana
