DAVAO CITY -- A total of 36 teams are set to compete in three qualifying legs of the National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) in Region 11 in November until December of this year.

NBTC Davao City commissioner Aldin Celi said the three NBTC qualifying legs will be staged in the cities of Digos, Davao, and Tagum.

Guesting before the weekly Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Annex of SM City Davao on November 14, Celi revealed eight teams will compete in Digos City, while 12 and 16 teams will participate in the tournament’s Tagum and Davao legs, respectively.

"The winners in the three elimination legs will compete in the regional finals in Davao City in January or February," Celi said.

Celi said the winner of the regional elimination will compete in the NBTC national finals at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in March, 2020.

"The school who represented Region 11 in the national finals last year was the St. Mary's College of Tagum City," he said.

He said the competition is open to all students born in 2000 and later.

"The Holy Child of Davao Red Eagles is one of the teams will compete in the Davao leg and St. Mary’s is also back to defend their crown," Celi revealed.

The newly-appointed NBTC commissioner said the tournament was formed to promote basketball in the grassroots level.

"One of the players who is a product of NBTC is Vince Petdeo Cuajao who formerly played for the Holy Child Red Eagles. He is now a member of the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers," he said.
