6,800 cops deployed in Region 11 for election

May 06, 2019 - Monday 6:05 PM by Ruth Palo

An augmentation force of 6,800 from the Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 that will help ensure the peaceful, safe, and orderly conduct of the May 13 election was sent off to various posts Monday.

“The security force for the election will also get augmentation support from other concerned government agencies, Barangay Tanods, Radio Communication Groups, Medical Teams and from their Army counterpart,” PRO 11 Director Police Brigadier General Marcelo Morales said in a ceremony held at the Camp Quintin Merecido headquarters, in Buhangin District.

Morales said it is hoped that the deployment will ensure the successful and peaceful conduct of the elections across the region.

The bulk of deployment will be in Davao del Sur, Compostela Valley Province, and Davao del Norte because of reported sightings of the New People’s Army (NPA).

Additional forces will also be deployed in Davao del Norte to make sure that peace and order prevails due to the presence of intense political rivalries, Morales said.

The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) will also deploy 500 personnel to secure polling centers in the city.

The police have been tasked to secure the storage, delivery, and retrieval of Vote Counting Machines (VCM) and accessories, ballots, and other election paraphernalia.

1003rd Infantry Brigade Commander Colonel Nolasco Mempin said they will be sending 1,000 officers, enlisted personnel, and force multipliers to Davao City, some parts of Davao del Norte, and Bukidnon.

Meanwhile, Task Force Davao Commander Colonel Consolito Yecla said their team will deploy around 150 soldiers to augment the DCPO team in providing security for the elections.

Region 11 has a total of 2.8 million registered voters all over the region.
