6 gold medals and counting for Davao’s BP arnis team

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, PALAWAN -- Davao City’s arnis team performed incredibly on day three of competition at the 2019 Batang Pinoy (BP) National Championships at Robinsons Place Puerto Princesa Wednesday morning to bring its gold medal haul to six.

Sherhalee Siemony Bulaso, John Clefford Anajao, Julia Cassandra Sarate, Ayesah Mae Tomakin, and John Lloyd Calubag won the gold medal in their respective divisions on Wednesday to add to the lone arnis gold medal won by Jollah Cabrera Baruiz on Monday.

Meanwhile, Lance Jefferson Geverola, Thalia Moore Frias, and Arzyan Fujita each won a bronze medal in their respective divisions.

Team coach Jay Bareña expressed pride over his team’s achievements over the past few days, highlighting that the team earned every medal since they have been training from 6 to 10 a.m. daily from March to August to prepare for the BP National Championships.

Geverola, Calubag, Tomakin, Sarate, as well as Van Roi Bulaso, Ariane Kaye Parami, Emmanuel Josh Nacion, and Charice Villarta are set to compete in the live stick event which continues today still at Robinsons Place Puerto Princesa.

Philippine Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation (PEKAF) regional director Mario Palazuelo said the team expects to win a few more medals in the live stick event.
