KIDAPAWAN CITY, North Cotabato – Hundreds of small hog raisers in the province affected by the African swine fever (ASF) will receive cash aid from the provincial government.

This came after members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan unanimously approved Tuesday a resolution granting financial assistance to swine raisers whose hogs were affected by the ASF virus.

Authored by Board members Krista Solis, who chairs the Committee on Agriculture, and Shirlyn Villanueva, the measure allocates some PHP3.9-million for the 704 affected hog raisers here and three towns ravaged by the ASF disease.

“Owners of the depopulated hogs will receive PHP2,000 for the grower, fattener, boar and sow; and PHP500 for suckling piglets,” Macasarte told reporters Wednesday.

Data from the Provincial Veterinarian Office showed that Magpet town has 384 affected hog raisers; Arakan, 92; President Roxas, 57; Makilala 16; and Kidapawan City, 155.

Recipients were validated by the incident management team formed by North Cotabato Governor Nancy Catamco last July 2020 to focus on the ASF containment.

All ASF-affected hog raisers are also set to receive cash assistance from the Department of Agriculture-Region 12. John Andrew Tabugoc
