The Office of Senator Christopher “Bong” Go sent assistance to 896 former rebels coming from various municipalities of the province of Bukidnon in an activity held at the Tehe Municipal Gymnasium of Impasug-ong, Bukidnon, on Thursday, March 4.

Calling for bayanihan and cooperation amid the current pandemic, Go assured the beneficiaries that he and President Rodrigo Duterte are always willing to provide additional help they may need to start their lives anew.

Go’s team distributed meals, food packs, masks, face shields, vitamins, and medicines during the activity which were conducted while strictly complying with the necessary health protocols to avoid the further spread of COVID-19 and other infectious diseases.

Selected former rebels also received bicycles for easy commuting to work amid limited public transportation options. Others were given tablets for their children to use in the online classes being implemented under the new blended learning approach.

The Senator also reminded them to comply with the government’s health protocols to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.

With no Malasakit Center yet in Bukidnon, Go assured residents that he will coordinate with concerned agencies and push for the establishment of the one-stop shop for government medical assistance in the province soon.

In the meantime, he encouraged them to seek such assistance from nearby offices. There are currently three hospitals near Bukidnon with Malasakit Centers, namely Northern Mindanao Medical Center, JR Borja General Hospital in Cagayan de Oro City, and Southern Philippines Medical Center in Davao City.

Representatives from the DSWD and the Department of Trade and Industry also provided additional assistance to the former rebels.
