The Office of Senator Christopher “Bong” Go delivered various forms of assistance to 101 Apayao residents who were affected by several typhoons in the past in a distribution activity held in Kabugao Municipal Gym, Kabugao, Apayao on Tuesday, January 12.

The Senator provided food packs, meals, face shields, masks and vitamins. Due to limited transportation and the need to commute to work, Go’s team also gave away bicycles to selected recipients.

During the distribution activity, Go’s team made sure necessary health protocols were strictly followed to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 and other diseases amid ongoing pandemic.

Social distancing, hugas ng kamay, face mask, face shield,” Go reminded typhoon victims through a recorded video message.

Go’s team also distributed tablets to another set of chosen beneficiaries for their children’s use for classes under the blended learning set up. They also provided pairs of shoes to other recipients.

As Chair of the Senate Committee on Health, Go assured beneficiaries that once safe and effective vaccines become available and approved by the Food and Drug Administration, the poor and the vulnerable, as well as frontliners, will be prioritized.

Go also offered assistance to those who needed major medical operations, such as heart surgeries. He urged beneficiaries suffering from medical conditions to seek assistance from the nearby Malasakit Center located at the Far North Luzon General Hospital and Training Center in Luna, Apayao.

According to the Senator, the Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop where the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Health, PhilHealth and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office are housed under one roof.

Meanwhile, personnel from the National Housing Authority were present during the distribution activity to provide housing assistance to the identified beneficiaries.

Go also thanked the local government officials of Kabugao, headed by Mayor Bensmar Ligwang, and the rest of the officials who continue to serve their constituents.

Despite the ongoing pandemic, Go and his team continues to go around the country to help communities in crisis situations. This week, his team went to Apayao, Cagayan and Isabela to provide additional aid to families affected by recent typhoons in coordination with LGUs and national agencies in their efforts to help communities recover and build back better.
