BAGUIO CITY – Operatives from the Benguet Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) have destroyed a total of PHP11.48 million worth of marijuana in Kibungan town on Thursday (Oct. 15).

Major Carolina Lacuata, chief information officer of the Police Regional Office Cordillera (PROCOR), in a statement, said the operation led to the destruction of 31,380 fully grown marijuana plants, 67,600 marijuana seedlings, and 20 kilograms of newly harvested marijuana stalks.

She said the operating troops discovered eight plantation sites in Sitios Pagidey and Batangan, Barangay Tacadang, Kibungan town in Benguet with a total land area of 1.36 hectares.

She said the fully grown plants and seedlings were destroyed and burned on-site while the stalks were brought to the regional office in Camp Dangwa for the ceremonial burning, which will be scheduled on a later date.

Lacuata said that while no person was arrested during the operation, a follow-up investigation will be done to find out the owner of the property.

She said that the Cordillera police will continue to conduct operations as part of its regular activities to eliminate illegal drugs in the province.

She also mentioned that there have been some members of the community who provide information to the law enforcers on the presence of plantation sites.

“We never stopped scouring the mountains even amid the pandemic,” Lacuata said. Liza Agoot
