The Philippine Azkals, who are making their first ever Asian Cup appearance, were unable to keep up with Chinese scoring Friday night as they lost 3-0 to the Asian powerhouse.
Wu Lei scored two goals for China, the first coming at the 40-minute mark as he scored past a defenseless Michael Falkesgaard who stood frozen as he could do nothing to stop the ball from hitting the net.
The second goal from Wu came in the 66th minute as he perfectly anticipated a volley coming from a teammate’s free kick.
Yu Dabao sealed the deal for China in the 80th minute as he successfully sneaked a header past Falkesgaard and a couple of other defenders only 15 seconds after being substituted in for Gao Lin.
China ended the first half making one goal after seven attempts, while the Azkals had two failed attempts at a goal.
Despite having almost equal shares of ball possession throughout the match, the Chinese were able to play more efficiently and aggressively to ultimately come out as winners.
The Philippine Azkals now find themselves winless and at risk of an early exit from the Asian Cup.
