The Office of Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, on Wednesday, April 14, provided assistance to 178 Typhoon Auring victims in Dapa, Siargao Island in Surigao del Norte who are still recovering from the ordeal they experienced last February of this year.

Go provided meals, food packs, medicine, masks, and face shields to the beneficiaries who were severely hit by the massive flooding caused by the heavy rains brought by the typhoon. The distribution activity, held at the Dapa Municipal Gym, was carried out in batches and under strict compliance with the health and safety protocols against COVID-19.

Huwag kayo mawalan ng pag-asa dahil hindi namin kayo pababayaan,” Go said in a video call.

Selected beneficiaries were also given new pairs of shoes. Another beneficiary was provided with a bicycle, an alternative and convenient mode of transportation. A selected recipient was also given a computer tablet for his child’s educational use.

As Chair of the Senate Committee on Health, Go reminded them to take the necessary precautions against COVID-19 and to strengthen their immune system as protection for themselves and their loved ones.

The Senator vowed that as the government accelerates its vaccine rollout, they will ensure access to vaccines of poor and vulnerable sectors.

To those who require urgent medical attention, Go reminded residents that they may conveniently apply for medical assistance from the government at the nearby Malasakit Center at Caraga Regional Hospital in Surigao City.

As part of the government’s ongoing efforts to assist those affected by calamities, representatives of the Department of Social Welfare and Development provided financial assistance to the beneficiaries, while the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Labor and Employment assessed residents who are eligible for their livelihood and employment programs, respectively.

During his video message, he also thanked the local and barangay officials of Dapa, led by Mayor Elizabeth Matugas, for taking care of their constituents amid the pandemic.

Ending his message, Go expressed his concern for his fellow Mindanaoans and all Filipinos as the country continues to combat the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic. He, together with President Rodrigo Duterte, also assured them of continuing service amid the present challenges facing the country.

On the same day, Go’s team also visited the towns of San Benito and Socorro where they distributed similar assistance to 403 residents affected by Typhoon Auring.
