Senator Christopher “Bong” Go continues to help Filipinos in distress, especially those whose homes have been ravaged by fire.
On Monday, September 28, Go sent assistance to victims of two different fire incidents in Manila. Go, through his team on site, distributed immediate relief to 31 families, comprising of 113 individuals, in Barangay 258, Zone 23 of Sta. Cruz, Manila, and sixteen families, composed of 65 individuals, in Barangay 267 in Tondo, Manila.
“Nagpadala ako ng kaunting financial assistance, mga gift check, food packs at saka pananghalian. Meron din po akong ipinadala na motorcycle backriding barriers na donated ng Angkas, at saka mask at face shield,” Go said in a video call to the fire victims.
Aside from the aid mentioned above, Go’s staff also gave away tablets for selected students to be used for their classes. Bicycles were also given to those who need them most. The distributions of aid were facilitated under strict observance of the health protocols imposed by the government.
The Senator then advised the fire victims to use the masks and face shields, especially that the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak is still affecting the country.
The Senator also shared that as soon as the COVID-19 vaccine becomes available, the government will prioritize the poor and the vulnerable.
“Cooperate muna tayo.
Meanwhile, representatives of various government agencies were also present during the aid distribution activities to extend additional assistance to the fire victims.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development gave financial assistance through their Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program. The National Housing Authority also committed to evaluate beneficiaries for their Emergency Housing Assistance Program. The Department of Trade and Industry also assessed potential beneficiaries for the Pangkabuhayan sa Pagbangon at Ginhawa program.
Go also mentioned that the nearest Malasakit Center located at the Philippine General Hospital is ready to serve those who need medical and financial assistance.
He explained that the Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop that houses DSWD, Department of Health, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office and PhilHealth where patients can avail of the government’s various medical assistance programs.
