DAVAO CITY -- The Technical Working Group (TWG) of the City College of Davao (CCD) is pushing to start the school’s operation by August of this year.
TWG chair Wenefredo Cagape said they are looking forward to starting the operation of CCD this year with a few two-year courses such as technical vocational ones that will cater to working students.
Cagape said classes at the CCD will start in the afternoon since it will be temporarily using the building of the Alternative Learning System (ALS) beside People’s Park.
“Everything will be for free, the tuition free and everything,” he said.
“This will cater to those in Senior High School who are taking the afternoon classes which are sponsored by the city government. These students come from Davao City National High School, Crossing Bayabas National High School and some others,” he added.
Cagape said the two-year technical vocational courses are just the startup of the CCD while four-year courses are being prepared.
He declined to say what four-year courses will be offered since further studies are needed.
Councilor Pilar Braga, who sponsored the CCD at the City Council, said that councilors are positive that although there is no allocation yet, the city will eventually find a budget for the establishment of the CCD.
“The mayor instructed me to push through with the city college in the City Council without indicating the budget yet,” she said.
Braga said while the Council is still composing the components of the Supplemental Budget No. 1, the members might look for ways to insert the budget allocation of the CCD.
The CCD needs P100 million for the establishment of the building as well as the employment of personnel.
Mayor Sara Duterte has earlier revealed that the city is having trouble with the allocation of the P100 million budget for the CCD.
