DAVAO CITY -- Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 director Police Brigadier General Marcelo Morales warned all station commanders in Region 11 that they face relief if they fail to act on blatant illegal gambling operations in their respective areas.

He said PRO 11 is also looking into its own personnel who are possibly involved in illegal gambling operations.

“We will go after policemen engaging in illegal gambling operations. You must learn to live within your means, especially now that your salaries have been increased by our President,” Morales said.

Morales made the statement as he revealed that a total of 127 persons were in June in PRO 11’s anti-illegal gambling operations in the region.

He said 57 operations were conducted in different areas in the region as the Philippine National Police (PNP) stepped up its campaign against illegal gambling.

The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) topped the number of operations conducted with 24, followed by the Davao del Norte with 14, Davao Oriental with 11, Davao del Sur with four, Davao Occidental with three, and Compostela Valley Province with two.

Morales said the arrested persons were caught in various illegal gambling activities such as cockfighting, video karera, illegal numbers game, mahjong, and tong-its.

He said police operatives confiscated around P13,868 in bet money during the month-long operation.

He said 55 cases were filed in court against the arrested persons for violation of Republic Act 9287 or the law against illegal numbers games and Presidential Decree 1602 or the illegal gambling law.

He said the persons have been released by the court after they posted bail for their temporary freedom.
