COTABATO CITY – Mayor Frances Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi has warned residents on the strict implementation of the firecracker and pyrotechnic ban here ahead of the December holiday season.
“The prohibition does not only include the sale and distribution of firecrackers but also the use of it,” Sayadi said in a statement Wednesday.
The mayor reiterated that mere possession of fireworks within the city limits would be dealt with.
A 2016 ordinance imposes a total firecracker ban in the city.
“Hence, the possession of pyrotechnics for delivery to the nearby provinces of Maguindanao or North Cotabato through this city is also no excuse for possible arrest and confiscation of the banned items,” Sayadi said.
The city has recorded zero firecracker-related injuries since the implementation of the total ban. PNA
