DAVAO CITY — The culling of pigs in will continue as a measure to end the African Swine Fever (ASF) that has affected thousands of pigs in Barangays Lamanan and Dominga in Calinan, this city.

City Veterinarian’s Office (VCO) head Dr. Cerelyn Pinili said they have already culled more than a thousand pigs in Barangay Lamanan.

Pinili said the culling will continue until the last hog in the barangay is eliminated.

“As of now I cannot give you the exact figures, the culling in barangay Lamanan is still ongoing,” she said.

In nearby Barangay Dominga, the culling ended on Monday with 477 pigs.

Approximately 2,500 pigs will be culled in both barangays.

Mayor Sara Duterte on Monday said the city has already released assistance to the farmers in the two barangays affected by the ASF.

“We gave out the assistance immediately. We asked the City Council to approve the ordinance for us to use the Quick Response Fund (QRF). After it was approved, we immediately processed the payouts,” she said.

The city allocated P20 million for the assistance given to the farmers.

A state of calamity was declared in the two barangays to expedite the use of the QRF for the assistance given to the hog raisers.
