DAVAO CITY -- The crime volume of Davao City for the months of January to March has decreased by 74 percent over the last five years.
Based on the data of Davao City Police Office (DCPO), the crime volume of the city for the first quarter of 2019 stood at 1,006.
This represented a consistent reduction over the last five years: 3,846 in 2015; 2,507 in 2016; 1,678 in 2017; and 1,412 in 2018.
The 2019 DCPO data showed theft as the highest recorded crime in the city, with a total of 79 incidents for the first quarter of the year.
City police director Colonel Alexander Tagum said DCPO is planning to address the theft incidents in the city with the creation of the barangay ronda patrol.
“We will tap the barangay tanods to help us in the areas that are considered as our limitation. This is the barangay areas, especially the exclusive subdivisions,” he said.
“Through this we hope to put a stop to the perennial problem of the city which is theft incidents,” he added.
The DCPO also recorded a higher Crime Solution Efficiency Rate in the city for the past five years for the months of January to March.
The figure stood at 89.96 percent in 2019, representing a consistent rise over the past five years: 74.44 percent in 2015; 82.29 percent in 2016; 82.9 percent in 2017; and 87.32 percent in 2018.
Tagum said DCPO will continue to work hard to maintain the peace and order of the city.
