DAVAO CITY -- The City Government of Davao is extending P3.5 million in assistance to some areas in Luzon hit by typhoon Quiel.
On Tuesday, the City Council approved the P3.5 million cash assistance to the provinces of Apayao and Cagayan and the municipalities of Allacapan, Abulug, Camanlaniugan, Sta. Praxedes, and Claveria all in Cagayan.
The two provinces will receive P2 million each while the five municipalities will each receive P300,000.
Typhoon Quiel (international code name Nalgae) reached its peak intensity as a Category 4 typhoon when it hit Luzon on September 30, 2019
City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) head Alfredo Baloran said the respective areas will decide on how to use the cash assistance.
“This has been the tradition of the city to give assistance to other areas that were hit by different calamities. As long as they will declare a state of calamity, we will extend assistance to them,” he said.
Baloran said the budget of the assistance comes from the Quick Response Fund (QRF) of the city.
“We have enough budget from our QRF that we can use if ever that we will be needing it. The city will have enough money on its own for any calamity,” he said.
