DAVAO CITY – About 50 vehicles participated in the ‘Sara Para sa Bayan 2022’ motorcade on Sunday here to prod Mayor Sara Z. Duterte to run for president in the 2022 national elections.

Attended by the barangay leaders, deputy mayors, and businessmen, the motorcade traversed in the major thoroughfares of this city in time for Valentine’s Day.

Barangay 23-C chairman Alimoden Usman, the campaign convenor, said they wanted to touch the heart of the lady mayor for her to decide and run in the next polls.

“Ma’am (Mayor Sara), Happy Valentine’s, what we did is not for ourselves but for the entire Filipinos. We hope that you heed our call and take on the challenge,” he said in an interview.

Usman said Mayor Sara is the “best person” for the continuation of programs and reforms started by the President, particularly in the aspects of peace and order and the war on drugs.

“We beg you to continue the program started by your father. Even (with) the conduct of this activity, (the) mayor told us not to push through with it but the people are calling her. She saw that we will never surrender,” he said.

Usman added they will start the motorcade in Luzon last week of this month, or the first week of March.

“There are people from Luzon who vowed to support and we thank them for taking part in this movement,” he said.

Meanwhile, Barangay Lasang chairman Allan Simo-ag, who was not able to participate in the caravan, said he came up with an idea on how to contribute to the campaign for Mayor Sara.

“I am organizing a group and a social media page called "Tambayan ni Inday" targeting ‘istambay’, students, and the marginalized sector. As Dabawenyos, we wanted to invite and introduce Inday as President to the relatives and friends of my residents who are residing outside Davao City and abroad and later on, establish contact and consolidate them for the campaign,” Simo-ag told Philippine News Agency.

With various groups calling for "Run, Sara, Run", Mayor Duterte thanked them for their support and trust in her leadership.

“I am grateful for their trust and confidence in me and what I can do and how I can help. Thank you,” Duterte said in a previous radio interview.
