ARAKAN, North Cotabato – More than 100 marginalized workers from three villages here were beneficiaries of some PHP2-million worth of livelihood kits from the Department of Labor and Employment Region 12 (DOLE-12) on Friday.
The workers, mostly earning wages only during planting and harvest season at crops and fruit farms, were among those heavily affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 crisis.
DOLE-12 director Raymundo Agravante said 112 vulnerable workers from the villages of Sto. Niño, Kabalantian, and Poblacion received livelihood starter kits under DOLE’s Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP).
Joining the DOLE-12 officials during the turnover held at the town gymnasium were Arakan Mayor Rene Rubino and barangay officials.
The starter kits include sewing machines, food carts, cooking utensils, hollow block-making materials, and also carwash, vulcanizing, and welding machines that can enable beneficiaries to quickly start their livelihood and become self-reliant.
“This intends to improve the socio-economic well-being of workers affected by the (Covid-19) crisis,” Agravante said during the turnover program.
In response, Rubino extended his gratitude to DOLE-12 for their unrelenting partnership on improving the lives of workers in his area.
“May you at DOLE continue to protect and help the vulnerable workers of our society,” the mayor said. (PNA)
