DPWH Regional Office XI (Davao Region) is building two COVID-19 Quarantine facilities which will serve as holding areas for air passengers while waiting for their COVID-19 test results at the Davao International Airport.

The City Government of Davao, along with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines identified the Old Airport Terminal in Sasa and the vacant lot in front of DIA along CP Garcia Highway as sites for the 300-bed capacity centers.

The CP Garcia Highway facility has 20 air-conditioned megatents at ten rooms per tent, with individual toilets, and can accommodate up to 200 persons while the other site can house 100.

In a statement, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio told the media that there is a need to add more similar facilities to address the increase in the number of inbound flights at the DIA.

These flights consist of sweeper flights carrying OFWs, Hatid Probinsiya and various regular commercial flights.

According to DPWH XI Regional Director Allan S. Borromeo, this is the Department’s response in combating COVID-19 in adherence to the Bayanihan We Heal as One Act.

“The Regional Office is working hand in hand with LGUs in ensuring that we will provide our people with adequate infrastructure support during these hard times. We can assure OFWs, LSIs and regular airline passengers that they will complete their temporary isolation in a safe and restful environment, he added.
