DAVAO CITY -- Police are still investigating the shooting of a driver of an undisclosed company at about 9:31 a.m on Monday at Pioneer Avenue Highway near Mankilam Elementary School in Tagum City.

Tagum City Chief of Police Lieutenant Colonel Ariel Acala identified the victim as Terencio Bacarisas Cañizares, 37, a resident of Pangantungan, Bukidnon.

Acala said Cañizares is now in critical condition as declared by attending physician Dr. Glen Michael Oyson.

He said the victim was traveling along Pioneer Avenue Road towards the city proper when an unidentified man riding on a motorcycle shot the victim several times.

Police investigators were able to recover at the crime scene two fired cartridge cases and one fired bullet of a caliber .45 pistol.

Acala told MDM that the victim was brought by the responding rescue team from City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) to the Davao Regional Medical Center for immediate medical intervention.

Acala said they are deepening their investigation as the victim has not received any threats, according to the wife.

Acala also clarified that Cañizares is not involved in any investment scheme in the city.

He said personal grudge might be the motive of the incident.

The city has been racked by a series of killings, many of them being linked to failed investment schemes.
