Favorites prevail in 2019 DCAA chess

DAVAO CITY -- Local chess favorites were the big winners in the chess tournament of the 2019 Davao City Athletic Association (DCAA) meet at the Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Sr. Elementary School on November 19-21.
Ruth Literatus representing Unit 3 won two golds for individual blitz chess and team blitz chess in the elementary girls’ division.
Literatus, a veteran of many local and national chess tournaments, scored 4.5 points to win the gold in the individual blitz category.
Taking the silver in the same category was Caerel Shane Mantilla of Unit 5 who scored four points.
The bronze medal went to Gabrille Aton who is also from Unit 3.
Literatus of Ramon Magsaysay Elementary School also won the gold in team blitz chess
Alongside Gabrille Aton after coming together for a combined score of 8.5 points.
The silver in the team category went to Unit 5, which is composed of Caerel Shane Mantilla and Genevieve Pond.
The bronze medal went to Unit 8, which is made up of Kelly Crizelle Toriano and Nayelie Suter.
In the high school girls’ division, favorite Irish Yngayo of Unit 5 also won two golds in the individual and team blitz chess categories.
Yngayo, a student of University of Mindanao won the individual gold after scoring 4.5 points.
The silver in the category went to Blanche Ellyz Bongato of Unit 6.
The bronze went to Roselle Vienne Guevarra, also of Unit 5.
Yngayo also a veteran of many local and national chess tournaments joined forces with Guevarra to win the gold in the team category to combine for a score of 8.5 points.
The silver in the team category went to Unit 6, which is made up of Bongato and Aliza Tabudlong.
The bronze went to Unit 8 composed of Queen Peralta and Jan Chelse Mendoza
Meanwhile, Andrei Ainsley Dolorosa of Unit 11 won the gold in the blitz chess category of the elementary boys’ division after scoring four points.
Japeth Aaron Carerosa of Unit 6 won the gold in the blitz chess category for secondary boys after scoring four points.
The gold medal winners in the tournament will represent Davao City in the Davao Regional Athletic Association (DAVRAA) in Davao de Oro in 2020.
