ILIGAN CITY -- A fire that started in a nearby house razed three school buildings in the Lanao del Sur town of Bacolod-Kalawi on Friday morning, police said.
The fire broke out in the house of a certain Juhary Manan, whose family managed to escape, before it spread to the nearby Dilabayan Primary School in the village of Dilabayan, said Captain Timothy Jim Romanillos, chief of Bacolod-Kalawi Municipal Police Station.
Romanillos said the fire quickly gutted three school buildings, which are made of light materials, around 8:20 a.m.
"Kaya ang bilis kumalat ng apoy dahil luma na (The fire quickly spread becase the buildings were already old) and made mostly of light materials," Romanillos said in a phone interview.
No injury was reported, and the Bureau of Fire Protection in Bacolod-Kalawi said the fire had been caused by faulty electrical wiring. No estimated cost of damage was immediately released.
