Hedcor scholar tops board exam

December 22, 2018 - Saturday 3:12 PM by PR

Risando's family makes native coffee for daily consumption and to add to their earnings as well.

Christmas is definitely merrier for Risando A. Namoc Jr. after getting the 6th rank in the Licensure Exam for Teachers (LET). Risando still couldn’t fully process how he bested 127,000 board takers.

Na-amaze ko kay sa kadaghan na mga hawod, isa ko sa gihatagan sa Ginoo og place, pagka Top 6. Na-amaze gyud ko ug nakahilak gyud ko kay murag natambalan ang kalisod na among giagian ( I was amazed I was one of those given by God to be top 6 which eases our hardships),” Namoc said.

Having received the gift of passing and topping the LET, Risando named three things he wish for Christmas candidly: a cellphone, a laptop, and a motorcycle.

And while it is ordinary to want these things, Risando’s reason behind his Christmas wishes were more than moving.

Risando poses in front of his grandmother's house, which also served as his family's home for the past years.

I need these things for may plan of teaching in our community. I like also to hold talks with my co-Bagobo Tagabawans to inspire them that hardships in life will not impede success), ” he said.

Risando currently resides in Sitio Balabag, Sibulan where electricity and mobile network signal is still a challenge. Roads to their area are also difficult to access especially during rainy season. He hopes to bring the school closer to his community and let his story inspire the people of his tribe.

When asked how his family would celebrate Christmas, especially because they have received a wonderful blessing, both Risando and his mother, Mylin, shared the same answer: making Jesus the reason for the season. They believe that along with their efforts, it was God’s guidance that got them this far.

Risando’s family hopes to have a simple gathering in their home in Sitio Balabag together with their relatives, a family gathering Risando wishes to happen. He said that seeing the children play together, exchanging stories, and celebrating victories will complete his Christmas season.

Risando is a scholar of Hedcor and Aboitiz Foundation having granted a free education in Cor Jesu College in Digos City. With the scholarship, he finished Bachelor of Science in Education, Major in Mathematics. Giving full college scholarships to qualified students are part of Hedcor’s efforts to advance communities through education.
