DAVAO CITY -- Davao City high school basketball powerhouses Holy Child College of Davao and Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) have taken an early lead in the senior high school division of the Davao Pride Basketball League’s (DPBL) current season.
The Holy Child Red Eagles and RMC Bulldogs notched their respective second wins in as many games after emerging victorious over their opponents on October 13 at the RMC Petro Gazz Arena.
Holy Child escaped a potential upset by the Lamb of God SPED Academy Saints behind Raven Gumban’s 17 points.
Red Eagles forward Froilan Falcis also added 16 points to help his team against the hard fighting senior high school team from Buhangin, Davao City.
The Saints, led by Miguel Manuel who scored a game-high 26 points, fought toe-to-toe with the favored Red Eagles as the latter only took a 48-47 lead at the half.
However, Holy Child’s experienced coaching staff led by Nestor Sarrosa proved vital in the team’s victory.
Later, another senior high school division game saw the Bulldogs demolish St. Patrick Math Science High School, 126-66.
Versatile forward Dave Bragat had another solid performance for the Bulldogs with 34 points in their win.
Bulldogs head coach Prince Macavinta is very happy with their win and is highly optimistic his team can sustain the same level of offensive and defensive intensity in its following games.
