Kings remain undefeated, Warriors nail 1st win in DPBL

DAVAO CITY -- The Jose Maria College (JMC) Kings remain undefeated in the third season of the Davao Pride Basketball League (DPBL) after disposing of the Philippine Academy of Sakya Red Dragons on November 15 at the Rizal Memorial Colleges Petro Gazz Arena.
The Kings overcame a touch challenge by the Red Dragons to secure a commanding 79-65 win, which is their third victory in as many outings.
JMC forward James Payosing scored 20 points to carry his team to victory against the Red Dragons whose 3x3 team landed a fourth-place finish in the recent national finals of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) 3x3 tournament in Manila.
The Kings capitalized on fastbreak points to break down the Red Dragons’ defense.
Kurt Magbanua scored 18 points for the Red Dragons in a losing effort.
The Red Dragons now stand at a record of 2-2 in the tournament.
Meanwhile, the Assumption College of Davao (ACD) Warriors finally nailed their first win in three games by beating the St. Patrick Wizards, 79-66.
The Warriors, led by head coach Joshua Aguilon, were all business in the game as they led from the first quarter to the final buzzer.
Warriors guard Kevin Caharian had a solid night of shooting for his team by scoring 20 points in their win mostly coming from three-point baskets.
Point-guard Vince Ontal also displayed a solid performance for the Warriors as he scored 19 points mostly on fast break plays.
Jester Mendez scored 16 points for the Wizards, who remain winless in the tournament.
