Literatus wins Ateneo HS Batch 67 chess tourney

Davaoeño FIDE Master (FM) Austin Jacob Literatus continue to make waves in local chess tournaments.

On September 5, Literatus won the Ateneo High School Batch 67 Open Chess tournament at the ICHEF Culinary School on De Jesus Street, Davao City.

Literatus, a former National University (NU) varsity chess player and University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) gold medalist, won the open title after scoring five points after six rounds of action.

A resident of Toril, Davao City, Literatus won P8,000 in cash and a medal for his feat.

The second place in the tournament went to National Master Macacuna Macala who won P5,000 and a medal.

Third place went to Harrison Maamo who won P2,000 and a medal.

The tournament was organized by Ely Acas and Jojo Palero.

Before winning the tournament, Literatus won the Open title at the Kadayawan Chess Festival 2019 at the Damosa Market Basket in Lanang, Davao City on August 10.

Literatus won P10,000 in cash and a medal for his feat.

The following day, Literatus also emerged as champion in the 5th Dr. Marlonsky Open Chess Tournament in Los Amigos, Tugbok district, Davao City.

Literatus scored 7.5 points after eight rounds of the Swiss System format tournament. The Davaoeño chess star won P20,000 and a trophy.
