The Land Transportation and Franchising Board (LTFRB) 11 vowed to intensify its campaign against unregistered or “colorum” public utility vehicles this year since these vehicles put the public’s safety at risk.
LTFRB 11 regional director Cattleya Acaylar said her office will conduct random inspection in order to apprehend colorum buses and vans traveling in the region, adding the campaign against colorum vehicles is one of the directives given by President Rodrigo Duterte.
“This office will intensify its fight against colorum operators in accordance with the President's directive on the crackdown of colorum vehicles,” she said.
Acaylar said the “all-out war” against colorum vehicles is one of her office’s priorities especially since they defy the safety standard of the LTFRB.
“Colorum public utility vehicles hide behind the color of authority and are defiant of the safety standards set by the Board,” she said.
Last year, the LTFRB 11 recorded 49 apprehensions of colorum vehicles, much higher than the 15 units apprehended in 2017.
Acaylar said the LTFRB’s campaign includes taxis and even privately owned vehicles that pick up passengers on the streets.
