DAVAO CITY -- Mayor Sara Duterte will seek divine guidance before she decides whether or not to run for President after her father’s term in 2022.
“Everything will be easier if it is the plan of God, so before I think about that, I should ask God first if this is for me,” the mayor said in an interview with Pastor Apollo Quiboloy in the latter’s television program “Give Us This Day” that aired on Friday, August 2.
There has been speculation that Sara is planning to run for President but the mayor has maintained she is not thinking about it yet.
Last June, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said Sara “might rise to the challenge” of succeeding her father, President Rodrigo Duterte.
“The father doesn’t want (her to run for President) but if the people want her to run, she might rise to the challenge,” Panelo had said.
The President had discouraged his daughter from seeking the same position, saying it is a difficult job that will only leave her frustrated.
In her interview with Quiboloy, Sara appeared to leave the door open to the possibility.
“For us not to make any mistake, we need to pray for wisdom on how to go about it and how to decide,” she said.
Quiboloy expressed support for the mayor and asked his followers to pray for her.
“I think in the coming years there will be drastic changes in Mayor Inday Sara’s life for the good,” he said.
“I think we will help her pray to help her prepare for that in the coming days. What she said was correct, that it’s only God who plans everything, especially when you’re running for the highest position in the country,” he said.
