DAVAO CITY -- The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Monday raided the office of Kapa Community Ministry International in Barangay Mankilam, Tagum City, Davao del Norte.

The NBI carried out a search warrant issued on June 7 ,2019 by Executive Judge Marivic Balisi-Umali of Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 20 in Manila against Kapa or Kabus Padatuon Community Ministry International represented by branch manager Arnel Labanon.

Judge Umali found probable cause the organization was violating Section 26 (fraudulent transactions) in relation to section 73 of Republic Act (RA) no. 8799 or the Securities Regulation Code.

The authorities seized several computer printers, the mother board of closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras, office supplies, and several suitcases believed to be used as storage of the money collected from investors.

The operatives also recovered an estimated P40,000 in cash from the donation boxes.

The raid came after President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday ordered the NBI, Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) to shut down investment schemes that have been proliferating in Mindanao.

Kapa’s offices in Southern Mindanao had already been closed since last week supposedly for system upgrade.

The Court of Appeals on June 4, 2019 ordered Kapa’s bank accounts and assets frozen over allegations it was operating an investment scam.

The order was issued upon the petition of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLAC).
