ZAMBOANGA CITY – Newly-promoted Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan Jr., commander of the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom), thanked President Rodrigo Duterte for the trust and confidence given him to lead the Westmincom and for the approval of his promotion.

Vinluan issued the statement following the arrival honors accorded to him on Wednesday at Camp Don Basilio Navarro here following his promotion to three-star rank general.

“I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) leadership led by no less than our Commander-in-Chief, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, for placing your trust and confidence in my abilities to lead Westmincom and for this unexpected milestone in my military career,” Vinluan said.

President Duterte approved Vinluan's promotion on September 17 this year.

Gen. Gilbert Gapay, AFP chief-of-staff, donned Vinluan’s insignia in a ceremony Tuesday at Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo in Quezon City.

“This promotion comes with tremendous responsibility, but, with your continued support and commitment, I know everything would be possible,” Vinluan told the servicemen and civilian employees of Westmincom.

“We will continue to work hard in pursuing our mandate. Let us all stay steadfast amid the challenges that come our way especially in these trying times. May the attitude of service always be in us and the heart that wants to help other people,” he added.

Vinluan is the 12th commander of Westmincom. He earned his first star amid the raging battle in Marawi City and his second star during his stint as the commander of Joint Task Force Sulu.
