OWWA XI assists 3,486 repatriated OFWs

DAVAO CITY (PIA) -- As the lead government agency tasked to promote and protect the welfare and well-being of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration–Regional Welfare Office XI (OWWA-RWO XI) continues to provide assistance to repatriated OFWs upon arrival at the Davao International Airport and at the Cagayan de Oro Seaport. 

The said OFWs availed of the sweeper flights and  malasakit voyage vessels arranged by OWWA beginning May 21, 2020.

As of July 6, 2020, OWWA XI has assisted a total of 3,486 repatriated OFWs from Manila and Cebu. Of this number, 1,199 were residents of Davao City, 242 from Davao de Oro, 669 from Davao del Norte, 354 from Davao del Sur, 163 from Davao Oriental, 12 from Davao Occidental, and 847 from the other regions (Regions 10, 12, 13 and BARMM).

Upon arrival at the airport, OFW Davao City residents are subjected to proper health protocols while residents outside Davao City are tested at their respective receiving Local Government Units (LGUs).

All returning OFWs are provided with free food and transportation upon arrival. Those going to the provinces are temporarily sheltered in a hotel in Davao City while waiting for their respective LGUs to fetch them.

For the ‘hatid-sundo’ operation, OWWA XI was able to provide transportation assistance to 101 OFWs who are residents of Region 10 and Caraga Region.

A total of twenty-two (22) OFWs were  transported at the borders of Pasian, Monkayo, Davao de Oro and Buda, Marilog District, Davao City and were safely transported to their respective homes.

Likewise, the region provided free accommodation to 939 OFWs prior to being transported to  their respective provinces  and regions.

OWWA XI has four repatriation teams rendering services 24/7 at the airport and as the need arises.

Repatriation assistance were successfully rendered through the support and coordination with other partner agencies like Davao City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), and Office of Civil Defense (OCD).
