DAVAO CITY -- The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) here is organizing a fun run set for February 16 that will seek to raise funds for its 10 scholars.
PICPA official Ross Luga said the group hopes to raise P300,000 to P500,000 in the fun run to help the schooling of their 10 scholars who are going to take up accountancy in local colleges and universities.
Appearing at the weekly Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Annex of SM City Davao on February 6, Luga said they hope to reach 500 to 1,000 runners.
"There are three categories: the 3 kilometer run, five kilometer run, and 10 kilometer run,' Luga told reporters who attended the forum.
Luga said the fun-run is the first one to be organized by their group and they are hopeful they are able to reach their target.
"Aside from the runners who will participate, we hope to get funds also from our corporate sponsors," he said.
"People today are conscious about their health and a fun run is one of the best ways to stay active and healthy," Luga added, explaining why PICPA has decided to organize a fun run.
Lord Eddie Aguilar, another PICPA official, said the winner of each category will receive medals and cash prizes.
Aguilar also revealed that they also have the categories couple and team (teams of five members) in the three-kilometer division.
"Since it is February so we decided to include a couple category," Aguilar explained.
"The winners in the couple and team competitions will also win cash prizes and medals," Aguilar added.
Aguilar said the registration fee for the run is P450 for adults and P300 for students.
"Once you register, you will receive a singlet, race bib, breakfast, and the chance to win in our raffle draw," he said.
Gun start for the fun run is at 5 a.m. on February 16.
