Police vow to arrest remaining members of Butanlog gang

DAVAO CITY -- Police authorities here vowed to arrest all the remaining members of the Butanlog criminal group which is engaged in gunrunning and peddling of illegal drugs in this city and nearby provinces in Region 11.

This after the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 11 Field Unit in coordination with Davao City Police Office (DCPO) busted a gunrunning syndicate in two separate areas in the city on Wednesday, August 14,2019, in Barangay Indangan and Barangay Santo Niño in Mintal.

Arrested in the entrapment operations were group leader Sario Tamay Butanlog, Anthony Anib Corpus, Alfie Tadiaman Doctor, and Victor Sales Penerio.

DCPO chief Colonel Alexander Tagum said arrest of the suspects was the result of the tight security measures being implemented in the city.

Seized from the possession of the suspects were one .9 mm caliber pistol, one 9 mm pistol magazine loaded five live bullets, one .38 caliber revolver loaded with five live bullets, and another .38 caliber revolver loaded with four live bullets.

CIDG 11 Deputy Regional Chief Major Milgrace Driz said the arrested persons are all security guards from different agencies in the city.

She said initial investigation showed that the group sourced their unlicensed firearms from Cebu, Marawi, and Cotabato.

“Kadtong firearms nga nakuha sa ilaha amo tong i-subject sa ballistic exams sa crime laboratory at the same time ilang names among i-forward sa firearms and explosive ordinance unit for verification,” Driz said.

(We will subject the firearms we confiscated from them to ballistic exams at the crime laboratory. At the same time we will forward their names fo the firearms and explosive ordinance unit for verification.)

Cases for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act were filed Thursday afternoon by CIDG 11 against the suspects, who are temporarily detained at Buhangin Police Station.

Tagum said the DCPO is currently conducting a case build-up operation to ascertain the suspects’  involvement in other criminal activities.

“Padayon ang atong case build-up to determine kinsa pa mga kauban aning mga tawhana ug definitely we will go against sa mga kauban nila,” he said.

(We will continue the case build-up to determine who their companions are. We will definitely go after the rest of the gang.)
