DAVAO CITY -- Task Force Davao has tapped vendors, tricycle drivers, and other people who stay at the Roxas Night Market as added “eyes on the ground” as part of the conversion of the night market to a Maximum Security Zone.
Task Force Davao head Colonel Consolito Yecla said a seminar was held on Tuesday morning at Almendras Gym to inculcate the culture of security among the vendors. It was attended by 383 vendors along with 20 tricycle drivers and 11 business establishments owners.
He said the help of the vendors is needed as they will be added “eyes on the ground.”
“They were given a checklist by TFD on how to secure themselves and the market through the practice of culture of security,” he said.
Yecla said aside from practicing a culture of security, the vendors were also told to maintain cleanliness and order as this will help the security forces secure the night market.
“(They should) make sure that they practice cleanliness and orderliness in their respective stalls to ensure safe and secure market. It is easy to identify potential threats such as unattended baggage if the area is clean and orderly,” he said.
Yecla said there is a need to emphasize the security to different sectors such as the vendors in Roxas Night Market since there is already a history of terrorism in the area.
