Sakya lands 4th place finish in 3x3 nat’ls

The teen dribblers from the Philippine Academy of Sakya fell short of a podium finish after they finished fourth in the national finals of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) 18 and under 3X3 basketball tournament at the Robinson's Place Manila on October 30.
The Sakya team coached by Rolando Sancho fell short against Region 7 (Negros Oriental), 15-8, in their battle for third.
The team, composed of Francis John Dagpin, Wilfredo Khim Remollo, Prince Urbiztondo, and Kurt Magbanua, reached the semifinals of the tournament after beating National Capital Region, 20-16.
However, the team fell short in the semifinals, 13-14, against Region 9.
The team was relegated to a battle for third place after their defeat.
Despite their failure to land a medal, the team remains happy with their performance against the country's top 3x3 basketball players.
The Sakya dribblers got the slot in the national finals after they beat Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) in the regional eliminations of the SBP 18 and under 3X3 basketball tournament on October 5 at the Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) Petro Gazz Arena.
In the distaff side, the ADDU girls’ team got eliminated in the quarterfinals after a 16-18 loss to Ilocos Region.
The ADDU girls got the slot to the national finals after beating Assumption College of Davao in the regional finals, 9-8.
The ADDU girls’ team coached by Cyrille Ramintas utilized their speed and outside sniping to beat the taller ACD squad.
ADDU guard Rozie Mae Amatong carried her team to the championship with six points mostly coming from penetrations.
The team, also composed of Kate Buenaventura, Kristela Charise Babatid, and Phoebe Kaye Mariano, reached the finals after beating the Holy Cross of Davao College Lady Crusaders in the semifinals, 9-7.
