DAVAO CITY – Mayor Sara Z. Duterte is unaffected by the latest Pulse Asia survey showing she remains the top pick among the possible presidential contenders in the 2022 national and local elections.

Asked about her frontrunner status, Duterte replied, "no comment" through a text message sent to the Philippine News Agency on Sunday (April 25).

Results of Pulse Asia February 22-March 3 survey showed Duterte getting the nod of 27 percent of 2,400 Filipino respondents.

Duterte had the most supporters in Mindanao (60 percent), followed by the Visayas (21 percent), Balance Luzon (17 percent), and Metro Manila (12 percent).

“2022 is too far yet; we don’t even know if I am still here in October (filing of candidacy). Who knows, Covid-19 might take me away. We don’t even know if we were still here tomorrow because of Covid-19. So 2022 is too far,” she said in a radio interview Monday.

“As you can see, it is not only our country, but everyone suffered globally because of this pandemic. Every day is a battle and a war against Covid-19. Every day that we wake up and not becoming a Covid-19 positive is a blessing already,” she added.

In January this year, the presidential daughter has asked the poll firm to remove her name from the list as she did not consider running from the country’s top position.

“The Presidential Elections of 2022 is farthest from the minds of many Filipinos as we focus firmly on how to survive the economic and humanitarian crisis still in front of us as we continue to battle the effects of Covid-19 on our people and our country. Nevertheless, I respectfully suggest to survey organizations to remove my name from the choices," Duterte said in a statement released shortly before New Year’s eve. Che Palicte
