Senator Imee Marcos on Monday said a “shotgun declaration” of Modified General Community Quarantine in the country is “dangerous”.

In a statement, she said “while we are keen to open our seriously damaged economy, the reality is that there is no one-size-fits-all solution.”

“Let’s establish parameters for opening up our communities - infection rates, local healthcare and quarantine capacities, present transport and mobility, and other vital assessment numbers,” she added.

Marcos pointed out that Local Government Units should be endowed “with a full range of powers, plus adequate support and materiel to respond swiftly and effectively to Covid - whether to retain certain highly infected zones under stricter lockdowns, or to revert to GCQ if a more open MGCQ results in an uptick in infection.”

“Aralin natin maigi at lagyan ng kongkretong batayan pag nagdesisyon,  huwag pabigla-biglang lundag sa pangkalahatang MGCQ. Nakakanerbyos, po!” she stressed.

On Monday night President Rodrigo rejected proposals to place the entire nation under MGCQ, including allowing limited face-to-face classes, until the COVID-19 vaccination rollout has started.

Senator Bong Go quoted the President as saying, “Not to the best interest of the country... Magbakuna muna tayo... Cannot in conscience allow these things to happen and something might get wrong.”  MDM
