The Manila City government began vaccinating senior citizens serving as the city’s healthcare workers on Tuesday, March 9, as another brand of COVID-19 vaccine—AstraZeneca—arrived in the nation's capital.

Manila City Mayor Francisco 'Isko Moreno' Domagoso, together with Vice Mayor Maria Sheilah Honey Lacuna-Pangan, led the ceremonial vaccination of medical frontliners at Ospital ng Maynila.

"As our commitment, the Vice Mayor and I, kapag nahawakan namin yung bakuna, hindi na kami magdidilly-dally, bakuna agad, deployment agad," Domagoso said during the vaccination.

"This is now putting into action, real action, yung aming mga simulation na ginawa," he added.

Ospital ng Maynila Director Karl Laqui said about 266 healthcare workers aged 60 years old and above are among those expected to be inoculated with the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine today.

The Mayor said that the vaccination process is going smoothly, citing the pre-registration done at the www.manilacovid19vaccine.com.

"I'm happy, sobrang saya ko para sakanila, sa totoo lang. Sobrang saya ko para sa kanila na after almost 12 months of uncertainty, at least lumilinaw na yung labo ng tubig," Domagoso said.

Apart from the ongoing vaccination at the Ospital ng Maynila, COVID-19 vaccination of healthcare workers resumed after the city government received another set of vaccines on Monday, March 8.

As of yesterday, a total of 2,396 healthcare workers have already been vaccinated in the City of Manila.
