In support of the efforts of the Manila Bay Task Force, led by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to rehabilitate Manila Bay, the SM Prime Holdings, Inc (SMPH) deploys seven water quality monitoring buoys and three land-based water quality monitoring equipment.
In a ceremonial launch held on November 6, 2020 at SM by the Bay, Mr. Siegfred Mison, Senior Vice President, Special Projects of SMPH presented before Pasay City Mayor Imelda G. Calixto-Rubiano and DENR officials headed by Secretary Roy A. Cimatu the water quality monitoring equipment.
This state-of-the-art and internationally renowned technology is set to continuously monitor the water quality of the Manila Bay, particularly the waters of Pasay City and Parañaque. The monitoring also includes the quality of the water that comes out of the inner waterways from the various esteros in Pasay and Parañaque.
The water quality monitoring buoys will track and record real-time data, utilizing a built-in technology that automatically transmits information to a dedicated team, through a website assigned solely to monitor the water quality in Manila Bay. The results are expected to be shared with DENR and other concerned agencies to aid them in future decisions with regard to the Manila Bay rehabilitation.
Also present during the launch were Head Executive Assistant Gavin D. Edjawan, DENR Undersecretaries Atty. Jonas R. Leones, Atty. Analiza Rebuelta-Teh, Assistant Secretary Atty. Daniel Darius M. Nicer, DENR NCR Regional Executive Director Jacqueline A. Caancan, EMB NCR Regional Director Domingo M. Clemente, and MBCO Deputy Executive Director Jacob F. Meimban, Jr.
