DAVAO CITY -- The relic of St. Camillis is in this city for the first time in preparation for the 500th anniversary of the Catholic Church in the Philippines in 2021.
Fr. Primitivo Guinit, chaplain of the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC), said the relic aims to inspire the youth of the sacrifices of St. Camillus, who dedicated his young life to the Lord.
“The visit of the relic aims to inspire the youth, and hopefully they will find out what is the meaning of life through the inspiration of St. Camillus who dedicated his entire life to God,” Guinit said.
St. Camillus is the patron of the sick as well as of doctors, nurses, and other health workers. He had an incurable leg disease acquired during his service in the military and served as a caregiver for the sick.
He established the Camillians, a religious congregation that caters to the needs of the sick.
Guinit said the visit of the relic impacts the lives of the sick who testified that they were cured through their devotion to St. Camillus.
“There are too many people who showed their devotion to St. Camillus. There were testimonies of miracles that they were healed through his help,” he said.
The heart relic of St. Camillus is going to different hospitals in the city. The last stop will be on Friday at the San Pedro Cathedral where Archbishop Romulo Valles will celebrate the Holy Mass.
The heart relic was brought to the country sometime in 2013 in preparation for the 400th death anniversary of St. Camillus.
Guinit said the relic heart is bigger than the normal heart and is enclosed in a specialized container for preservation.
