The Royal Mandaya Hotel held the seventh edition of its series of fun runs called Hunat Dabaw on September 8, Sunday, to celebrate the hotel’s 21st anniversary.
The race was participated in by a total of 2,320 runners, which solidified Hunat Dabaw’s status as one of the biggest fun runs in the city. It is also the longest running fun run series in Davao, according to hotel general manager Benjamen Banzon Jr.
Proceeds of the fun run, with the exact amount still to be determined, is set to be donated to GMA Kapuso Foundation to help build a steel bridge in Barangay Mapula in Paquibato District.
An estimated 2,500 residents of the area will benefit from the bridge, which will be able to accommodate pedestrians and motorcycles.
Banzon, in a pre-run press conference at the Royal Mandaya Hotel in August, said the Escandor family, which owns the hotel, did not hesitate to give the go signal for the donation.
The fun run featured GMA Kapuso artists Benjamin Alves, Patricia Tumulak, and Thia Thomalla, who spiced things up for participating runners.
Gun starts for the 3k, 5k, and 10k categories were led by Irra Escandor, Inna Escandor, and Glenn Escandor, respectively.
Prizes in cash and kind were awarded to race winners as well as special awardees such as the youngest and oldest runners, barefoot runners, and others.
