DAVAO CITY -- Compostela Valley Province Governor Jayvee Tyrone Uy expressed confidence that the law renaming the province to Davao de Oro will be ratified by residents on the scheduled plebiscite on December 7, 2019.
Uy said the provincial government is continuously holding its information and education drive for public awareness, reaching the grassroots level of the barangay.
President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act (RA) Number 11297, the law renaming the province of Compostela Valley Province into Davao de Oro, in May 2019.
The law will be subject to ratification in a plebiscite scheduled on December 7, 2019.
Uy said he expects majority of Comvaleños to vote in favor of the ratification.
However, the governor said he is also expecting some of his constituents to oppose the renaming of its province to Davao de Oro.
“I cannot expect 100 percent yes, but what I can assure that there will be no strong opposition to rename ComVal to Davao de Oro,” he said.
“Kasagaran lang sa ilang sulti nga naandan na daw nila ang pangalan nga ComVal, ila nang nadak-an ug naanad na sila,” he added.
(Most of those who oppose say they’ve been used to the name ComVal.)
Uy called on residents of his province to get involved in the coming plebiscite and be part of the historic event in the province.
Uy said the provincial government has already created a transition committee to prepare the new logo, seal, legal documents, and others once the law is ratified.
He also clarified that the province’s geo-political boundaries will remain.
