Viral video explained: NCRPO chief says cop arrested a snatcher

August 20, 2019 - Tuesday 1:08 PM by Ruth Palo

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) regional director Police Major General Guillermo Eleazar on Tuesday shed light on a viral video that shows a police officer arresting a man at the Lagusnilad Underpass in Manila.
“Patrolman Jonathan Stanley Berdon Dionisio chased a snatcher no matter how far and how long it took just so he can help a distressed citizen at Lagusnilad, Manila,” Eleazar said in a statement.
The dashcam video, dated August 2, 2019 and which the NCRPO attributed to Gerald Dumasal, showed Dioniso chasing after and catching a man who tried to board a jeepney at the Lagusnilad.
Dionisio could be seen from both the rear and front dashboard camera running and then pinning down and handcuffing the man.
Dionisio could be seen pulling out his handgun but never pointing it at the suspect.
“It is not clear why the man was arrested,” the video subtitle says, but Eleazar clarified that the man was a snatcher.
“As the Regional Director of NCRPO, it makes me proud seeing them being recognized by the public we ought to serve and protect,” he said.
For his action, Dionisio received a “Pulis Magiting” award, which Eleazar said is given to police officers who go the extra mile in carrying out their duties.
