DAVAO CITY -- The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) reported zero crime incidents during the conduct of the midterm election in the city.

DCPO Director Police Colonel Alexander Tagum said the city has been generally peaceful even during the night before the election.

However, the authorities apprehended 25 violators of the election liquor ban beginning midnight of May 12 until noon of May 13.

“Our intensified enforcement of Electoral Law has resulted in the apprehension of 25 liquor ban violators since the start of the liquor ban,” Tagum said.

He said the security forces are working hand-in-hand to ensure the city will have a peaceful conduct of the midterm election.

All security forces were placed in strategic location especially with President Rodrigo Duterte scheduled to cast his vote at the Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School in the afternoon.

“With the ongoing casting of votes for the 2019 midterm elections, Davao City Police Office with our partners from other Security Forces and other Law Enforcement Agencies based in the city have deployed a massive security coverage in all polling centers in Davao City to ensure the maintenance of peace and Order in our locality,” Tagum said.

Under the Omnibus Election Code, those who were apprehended for violating the liquor ban can face possible imprisonment from one year up to six years and deprivation of their right to vote.

Political aspirants who will be caught violating the liquor ban will be disqualified from holding any public office, whether elected or appointed.
